May's Flower Moon is approaching

This month, the full 'Flower Moon' will arrive in the night sky on May 18th 2019.

The Full Moon of May is known as Flower Moon to signify the flowers that bloom during this month. (Full Moon names were given by Native American tribes to mark the change of seasons which were later adopted by colonists.) There is a myriad of wildflowers which bloom in May in the Northern Hemisphere, Indigo, bluebells, lupine, sundrops, and violets, to name just a few. So it is no wonder that the colourful displays these flowers create in nature have inspired people to name this bright spring moon after them!
