Beauty Secrets | From a Yogi
If you know a yoga teacher, then you've probably noticed the way they seem to naturally radiate beauty from the inside out. They have toned bodies, glowing skin and move with delicate grace. Even during a hard class, they appear controlled and relaxed as they stretch and sweat! So we asked our friend and dedicated yoga instructor Caitlin Varrin, from Yogalife Studios, for some expert yogi beauty advice. Here are her top 5 yogi beauty tips:
1) Find Your Balance
Yoga teachers know the importance of moderation. Live your life and enjoy it! Don't deprive your self of everything, find your own unique balance. Dance all night long, but return to your mat the next day. Wear high heels, and go barefoot on Sunday. Embrace all sides of who you are and feed your soul when it needs it.
2) Green Juice in the AM
Start your morning off with greens. Lots of yoga instructors begin their day with a vitamin packed fresh green juice and green tea to kickstart their metabolism, flush out toxins and get their nutrients.
3) Sweat! But Don't Forget to Breathe
Practising different yoga styles gets you sweating and targeting different muscle groups and different results. Increasing your heart rate improves your circulation and oxygen capacity, which makes your skin glow! One difference between yoga and other physical activities, is that you must always be mindful of your breath. Many yoga teachers credit breathing as the main cause of their calm state of mind. Make an effort to inhale slowly and focus on your breath throughout the day.
4) Create Your Sanctuary
During the week, take time to relax and disconnect from the chaos. It can be in a quiet space in your home where you light candles and listen to music, or a soak in the tub with essential oils. Whatever it is, make it a part of your routine to take a 20 minute time out from the world and focus on yourself and your thoughts.
5) Avocados
Avocados are a great source of antioxidants, healthy fatty acids and carotenoids like alpha carotene, beta carotene, beta cryptoxanthin, zeaxanthin and lutein. These free radical compounds provide significant protection for your skin from the environmental damage that leads to fine lines, wrinkles and other visible signs of aging. Plus they really help to keep your hunger at bay so have them on toast or crackers in the morning or pop them into a smoothie before a yoga class or long day at work!
