Daily Inspiration I The Lotus Flower

The lotus flower’s beauty is encapsulating. It has become a constant inspiration behind our collections because of its beauty as well as its observation and adornment by three ancient civilizations: Egyptians, Buddhists and Hinduism.

To ancient Egyptians the Lotus is associated with rebirth, due to the fact that is retracts into the water each night, to re-emerge a fresh bloom in the sun each day.

In Buddhism the lotus flower is linked to purity, spiritual awakening and faithfulness. The flower is known to represent purity because of its ability to grow from muddy waters and remain perfectly clean and white.  By its persistence to break into bloom each morning, it has also been associated with spiritual enlightenment.

The strongest association of the lotus flower in religion is observed in Hinduism, representing beauty, fertility, prosperity, spirituality, and eternity.  It ties the unopened buds to human traits, which represent a human soul that is able to open itself up to divine truth and knowledge.

Lotus color symbolism:

Blue: wisdom, intelligence and knowledge

Purple: Mysticism

White: Mental purity and awakening

Pink: Is considered the supreme lotus, and is the true lotus of Buddha.

Red: Love and compassion

Sunset Incarnate

Saraswatis newest fall collection, Sunset Incarnate was inspired by the curvature of the crescent moon.

We combined the Chandra crescent moon and Lotus earring to create a mystical and bold vibe.

The collection is available in silver and brass.

Sunset Incarnate

A new collection of Saraswati Designs jewelry was unveiled for the first time at the Toronto Gift Fair and the Mode Accessories Show (both in Toronto) earlier this week. The collection is named Sunset Incarnate and features Lotus flowers and crescent Moon silhouettes.

The biggest inspiration for this photo-shoot was, of course, the goddess Saraswati. She is often depicted wearing a pure white sari or next to a white swan and flowing water. To represent this aspect, Suka Clothing created a custom skirt and crop-top combo for us! (THANK YOU!)

Pictured above is the Lotus Earring and Aphrodite Crown.

Saraswati works together with gods Lakshmi and Parvati to help Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva in the creation, maintenance and destruction of the Universe. The sunset represents the descent into darkness and the beautiful and introspective aspects of the Universe's life cycle.

More to come soon!

Let the Sun shine in!

It seems like Summer solstice was only yesterday but the autumnal equinox is close around the corner (September 23, to be exact). Remember to take a moment to yourself, face the sun, and let the warmth of the rays fill your heart and mind with love, life and joy with each inhale.

"Turn your face toward the sun and the shadows will fall behind you" - Māori proverb

"May the sun bring you new energy by day,

May the moon softly restore you by night,

May the rain was away your worries,

May the breeze blow  new strength in to your being,

May you walk gently through the world and know its beauty all the days of your life." - Apache blessing

All pictured jewelry pieces are a selection from the Natural World collection.

Sacred Geometry

The Flower of Life is symbol of sacred geometry containing ancient, religious value depicting the fundamental forms of space and time. These basic patterns of existence are perceived as sacred, since contemplating one is contemplating the origin of all things. Their nature and form are studied to gain insight into the scientific, philosophical, psychological, aesthetic and mystical laws of the universe.
.

The understanding of the importance of different geometric shapes and patterns found everywhere in nature is amongst the wisdom that brings us closer to the natural world and connects us with our ancestors.
