The hamsa hand is an ancient symbol of divine protection against the stare of an evil eye, but also represents blessings, power and strength. Hamsas usually contain an eye symbol in the palm to ward off the illness, death and unluckiness. 

This week, reality hit hard and the extreme cold weather certainly didn't help to ease the pain of the detox from the overindulgent holiday season. So with all the talk of the New Year and new beginnings, we wanted to walk the walk! We were feeling like we needed some nourishment for our body and soul to boost our spirits, so we went to visit Noorish, one of our local stockists in Edmonton, who is also a conscious eatery and yoga studio!!

After taking a much needed yoga session we treated ourselves and shared some of their incredible superfood elixirs and could begin to feel more mentally and physically balanced. We absolutely love the bohemian decor and vibe at Noorish, with its eclectic crowd and old world charm, so of course we took the chance to take some photos with some of our Saraswati favourites from the store! It has been celebrated and held sacred in many ancient cultures for centuries as the symbolic rebirth of the sun, lengthening of new days and the promise of renewed life. All things that come into being, must first be born. The winter solstice is a spiritual celebration of being born-again. It celebrates the beginning, described as the birth of the spiritual son in the process of reaching awakening within your consciousness. 

During the winter solstice, the sun is at its weakest point similar to that of a child and it slowly grows to reach its strongest at the summer solstice, illustrating how the spirit grows and transforms from darkness into light.

In Hinduism, and in a spiritual sense, snakes represent human desires. Just like those who receive a bite from a snake are vulnerable to suffering and sometimes death, those who are bitten by desire can suffer a similar fate. The suffering is parallel to snake poison as it will take over your body. In Hinduism, you are only safe when you hold the poison in your throat, illustrated by Shiva, and do not let it travel to your body or your mind. Winter is upon us and the leaves have been replaced with frost, revealing the true beauty of the bare branches and their beautiful energy.

The spiritual symbol of the tree of life is one that is deeply rooted in the earth, with the branches reaching toward the sky. It begins with the sprouting seed, that grows into a trunk and eventually begins to branch off and climb towards the light, symbolizing that you are a child of the earth; your roots link you to your past, your branches are your aspirations and desires.

This week is all about trusting your intuition.

Intuition is defined as the ability to understand something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning.

It is that gut feeling or sensation that forms in our consciousness before we are fully aware of the underlying reasons that sprouted them. 

It is said that women have a natural gift of strong intuitive abilities. We tend to feel things in our guts when something doesn't feel right. This is because we are born with maternal instincts which give us the intuitive ability to nurture and care for others. Research also suggests that women are more capable of picking up on subtle emotional queues, that help us process if someone is being genuine or insincere. 

Intuition bridges the gap between conscious and non conscious parts of our mind - and instinct and reason. 

To celebrate this incredible capability, Saraswati created the Intuition collection, which is made with Lapis Lazuli.

Athena is a fierce Greek goddess of wisdom, courage, strength and strategic warfare.

The citizens of Athens created a statue of Athena as a temple to the goddess, with a helmet on her head, a long spear and piercing eyes. She always had a snake beside her and she held Nike, the goddess of victory in her hand. The owl was her symbolic bird. 

We are inspired by the goddess because she was a strong women who represented intelligence, humility, consciousness, cosmic knowledge, creativity, enlightenment, eloquence and power. She stood for truth and justice, and only led battles in a disciplined and strategic manner.

We designed this drop arrow necklace and named it after Athena because it is worn around the neck and drops towards the chest like armour. Wear it and be a fierce warrior, but always remember to use your intuitive wisdom.
